About Norman

Shortly after this picture was taken, Norman got his box of cigars, his bottle of 12-year-old Macallan, his favourite silk cravat and diamond-topped cane, called for his chauffeur and limo, then headed out on the town with a squad of popsies.

NORMAN HARPER is an author, journalist, columnist and editor based in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

He was born in September, 1957, and still lives less than two miles from the village where he was brought up, which shows either devotion to his home patch or a woeful lack of ambition.

In 1977, he joined the staff of the UK’s best-selling regional morning newspaper, The Press and Journal, at its Aberdeen HQ, as a trainee reporter. After qualifying, he shifted his allegiance to the Features Department. Six years later, he became Features Editor. He stood down in 1992, becoming a twice-weekly columnist and the paper’s leader-writer. Also in 1992, he saw the first of his 14 books (four co-written) published.

He left The P&J in 2003 to pursue his career as a writer and freelance book editor, and lives in splendid rural Aberdeenshire with his wife, Alison, and their red setters, brothers Max and Riley.
